Some kid on a bike

Some kid on a strange bike

We spent one day at Versaille, mostly to see the palace. On the streets of the town there was some sort of bicycle festival going on, with lots of booths, and demonstrations. This was at a fenced-in area where kids (young and old) could try out a whole bunch of really wacky bikes.

This particular bike has no pedals; it's powered by bouncing up and down on the platform, which is geared to the wheels to provide forward motion on the downstrokes -- kind of like a treadle on old-fashioned sewing machines or spinning wheels.
